Smithy and the Marv’s Soaring at Tonypandy!

It’s hard to believe but the photo, bottom right, of Tonypandy Community College’s former Head Teacher, Stephen Parry pictured with ex-Marv’s Christiaan and Kate, was taken over twelve years ago!! And perhaps even more incredibly, the top girl in Christiaan and Kate’s first-ever All-Star selection, Chelsea Martin, is now a near 7-year veteran of Sporting Marvels and has taught nearly 2000 children via the Mighty Marvels Programme!

All-Star Leadership Academy Enjoy Middle Park!

2016 saw us up the ante as far as our amazing All-Star leaders are concerned! As a big “Thank You” for their commitment and help at our out-of-school events through the 2015/16 academic year, we took them to Middle Park Adventure Camp for some X-Factor American Camp type activities. And as you can see from the photos, the activities really were scintillating! Brad’s “Blob” launch photo - see previous page) is even a contender for Sports Illustrated Magazine’s “action shot of the year!!”

All-Stars Head for Africa!!

Our last All-Star Africa Trip (Feb 2015) feels like it was just  yesterday, but it’s now nearly two years since we were watching the likes of Thomas Miles and Matthew Smith trying to win a football match against 400 fit African boys on the “bobbly” Tanzanian turf of Arusha!!

Head-2-Head!!

“Momentum” is something of a buzzword with the Marv’s, probably because we’ve learned the importance of “starting as you mean to go on”. We’ve all learnt  that how you start sets the tone and standard, for whatever else is to come; and if you start poorly, you only end up having to battle back from a losing position in order to get to a winning one! It’s a principle that applies to life of course, to sport, business, ministry etc. but it also really applies to Sporting Marvels and specifically, to a new school year!! And while the first lessons of the year are now behind us, attention turned recently, to the year’s first big event: Head-2-Head!

The “Dear Phil” Letters and the Attitude of Gratitude!!

Great Feedback From The New Mighty Marvels Journal

To say that the first year of our new classroom curriculum went brilliantly is something of an under-statement! The alternate classroom curriculum has given a new dimension to the Mighty Marvels Programme and now we no longer have the issue of Year 5 in our top classes having to do the same thing two years in a row!

“I love Sporting Marvels because….”

One of hundreds of quotes from the great leadership teacher, John Maxwell, is this: people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. It's a big line that has direct relevance on the people who wear the Sporting Marvels jersey. You can’t be a Marvel unless you care, about the kids and what we teach them. Having a young workforce passionate about positively impacting the lives of Rhondda’s children makes us who we are and it gives the Head Teachers we work with the confidence that Sporting Marvels is important in the development of their Year 6 children.

12 Years of Partnership at First School Tonypandy!

For the first time in eleven years (since Kate Ritta’s arrival from the U.S. in July 2004), the school would be without a full-time male and female presence and understandably, there were a few concerns, especially for the potential impact on the female side of the Tonypandy All-Star Programme.
