Chris Covering Ricardo Absence at Tonypandy! Print

When Ricardo Erasmus (Picutred below running a mentorship group) arrived on our shores in January 2008, it was clear that he had the potential to be a truly outstanding Marvel.

Two years later, at the start of a new decade, Ricardo is back in his native South Africa – hoping and praying we can find a way to bring him back and extend his time with us!
While his absence is being felt in many areas, it is none more so than in the mentorship groups he has created in Tonypandy Comp.

His groups have been running for well over a year and meet on a regular basis during school time, building on the unique life coaching Sporting Marvels offers.

The boys of the group love Ricardo and so highly do the Marvels management rate his work at the school, every effort’s been made to cover for him in his absence.

Chris Bullock’s (Left) workload has been rejigged so that he can spend a large chunk of time at Tonypandy where his top priority is to maintain relationships and keep the mentorship groups moving forward.

“Ricardo is absolutely adored at our school,” says Becky Davies, operations manager, and Ricardo’s co-worker at Tonypandy. “The kids and staff miss him loads and are constantly inquiring as to when he’ll be back. It’s a testament to the role he plays at Tonypandy and how important he’s become that the staff constantly ask me if there’s anything they can do to get him back!”

Though glad to have Chris help out, Tonypandy couldn’t be more keen to have Ricardo back…..

“Ricardo is a respected member of staff….a very positive role model….who brings out the best in staff and students alike. His enthusiasm and ability to motivate students is contagious and  was very evident in the…..the Year 7 lesson I observed recently”
Helen O’Sullivan, Headteacher, Tonypandy Community College
